Swelling after injections
💉 Today, I want to discuss a very important yet fascinating topic – post-injection swelling.
Let's talk about the periocular area.
⠀
👀 It's no coincidence that people say the eyes are the mirror of the soul. When we communicate, we naturally focus on a person’s eyes.
⠀
But what causes swelling after injections in this area, how can it be managed, and most importantly, how can it be prevented?⁉️
1. What are the causes?⤵️
In my practice, I have often encountered patients whose tear trough correction was performed incorrectly.
As a result, they experience under-eye swelling, which can appear immediately after the procedure or develop over time.
❌ The primary cause is improper patient management.
From my experience, only in 5-10% of cases should tear trough correction be the first step. This applies mainly to young patients with a perfectly structured midface.
‼️ For the majority of patients, midface correction should be performed first, followed by tear trough correction.
⠀
Midface correction alone often significantly reduces the tear trough depth—by approximately 50%.
⠀
Only after these adjustments should we proceed with tear trough correction.‼️
❌ The choice of filler also plays a crucial role.
It should not attract excess fluid.
❌ Proper injection technique is equally important.
The filler must be placed “under the muscle.”
It can be injected using either a cannula or a needle.
I personally prefer working with a needle, as it provides greater precision, ensuring that the product is placed exactly where it should be.
⠀
👀 How to eliminate swelling after an unsuccessful correction ⤵️
The solution is hyaluronidase.
This enzyme is an essential tool in aesthetic medicine with a wide range of applications. 🔥
It serves as both an antidote and an emergency treatment for complications.
⠀
💉👀 Additionally, it can be used to remove unwanted effects caused by incorrect or unsuccessful corrections.
Having such a tool in our practice is invaluable. You can think of it as a deep cleaning or prepping a room for renovation—removing old wallpaper before starting fresh. 🔥
💉 In my opinion, 👀 the eye area is the most challenging to treat, and its correction requires a highly cautious approach!
